if you have Panther, and a macro program that runs applescripts (like
iKey, QuicKeys, HotApp, Key Xing etc), you can run this script from a hot key:

tell application "System Events" to tell process "PowerMail" to click
button "Remove Read" of tool bar 1 of window "Recent Mail"

</script>

I tried saving it in the script menu and assigning it a hot key with the
Keyboard Shortcuts prefpane, but it won't even run manually from the
scripts menu.
