I am trying to understand the Spam filter in PM5. In PM4, I filtered all the Earthlink email to a folder, which worked as my Spam folder, except that a few people did occasionally use my Earthlink address. Probably 90% of my email was filtered to a folder (like for email from my kids, related to my work, or from lists). These filters came before my Earthlink filter.
As I understand it, I want to apply the Spam filters before my Earthlink filter as well so that most spam email will arrive in the Spam folder. First, if anyone is in my address book, they are exempt from the filter; if they are in my previous recipients they are exempt from the filter; and if they address me by name they are exempt from the filter. That looks good to me. Since most of the Earthlink email will not pass these criteria, shouldn't that send it to the spam folder instead of the Earthlink folder? I am interested in the Spam filtering because I am now starting to get Spam on my .mac account (after all these years with none). I would like to get it out of the in tray. Midi
