Sorry Don I didn't think about OS 9 and SimpleText isn't AppleScriptable.

However, I would suggest a terrific shareware text editor "Tex-Edit Plus"
<http://www.tex-edit.com/texedit.html>

The following script will work with it. (Same script as BBEdit)

                set s to source of msg
