Without standards there are no freedoms. Total freedom is a selfish
concept in today's societies, and rapidly becomes anarchy.
Take roads. The standard (in Australia) is to drive on the left. Without
that standard the road system in populated areas is unworkable, or at
least very dangerous to the users. You still have the freedom to drive a
gas guzzler, ride a bicycle or walk, but you comply with the standard to
do so. And that standard is way older than 20 years, BTW!
Standards underpin much of 'civilised' society, whether they are uniform
rail gauges, non-smoking restaurants or power voltages in homes and
offices. Some of them are country specific, some are state specific, and
some are international. Some are written and imposed, others are
developed and honoured by general agreement, some are resented and others
may not be enforced.
RFC 2822 may be a twenty plus year old standard, but at least it's a
standard, full marks to CTM for allowing for it. Perhaps a certain
Redmond company could occasionally consider doing the same?

Way off-topic, I know, sorry.

Welcome to the group, and thanks for stirring the possum,

Cheers
