i know I'm sounding like a broken record, but I recommend that you buy
Emailchemy and use it to move your Emailer database into Powermail.  I
struggled with the Emailer=>PM import too, before giving up & getting
Emailchemy.  

It was worth it for me, since I bought a PM 5-pack and converted my whole
family from Emailer!
