MacUser magazine has just reported a problem with Panther's Filevault
that can corrupt preferences, keychains, safari, mail and iCal data, and
generally be a right royal pain in the behind. There's a thread o the

Don't know if it's related to Mirko's problem but it seems quite a
coincidence. As Scott said, treat FileVault with caution for the time being.
