It sounds like you and I read our email in the same manner. At first, I didn't know what you meant by "elevator" bar and button. Now I realise you are referring to the scroll bar and scroller/scroll button. If you click at the very end of the scroll bar, you should scroll to the end of the message list of the currently viewed folder. The scroll button will jump to the end of the scroll bar where you click. At least, it does for me in every application that I can think of - even in most dialog boxes. Dragging the scroll button often takes too long for me, so give it a try to see if that works for you. Also, in PM, when the view of the folder list is set to "View Unread" and the pane with the list of messages is highlighted, the "Up" arrow key selects the first unread message from the bottom of the message list pane. If I've just deleted a message, then there is no indication what message the arrow will select, but it selects the next unread message up. Unfortunately, if the view of the folder is set to "View all" I find that the up arrow leads me to the first message from the bottom - which is a message from ages ago. That's the extent of my knowledge of selecting messages in PM. (Currently using PM 4.1.3 and OS 10.2.6) Maybe others know of other methods for navigating messages.
