I'm afraid that I can't duplicate the problem John; as you can see from my sig below I'm using the latest version of PM and I can open the package contents without any trouble. Try repairing permissions for your Mac -- you can do this using Disk utility of the freeware app Cocktail. It might sort out something behind the scenes that isn't immediately apparent.
