Can't say anything about which is faster, I really don't remember
anymore. But 4.1.2 sometimes interrupts your writing for about a second
or so when checking mail. With about 10 accounts simultaneously checked
every 5 minutes, I'd say one could live with it. Even though it would be
nice to get rid of it entirely, of course. (The time PM "steals" from you
doesn't seem to depend too much on CPU speed in this matter. I had a much
slower machine until a couple of weeks ago (B/W G3, 300Mhz/400MB RAM) and
can't recall this particular thing took longer time then.)
