Exactly - it would make up for the limited search capabilities for those
few times where you need it, even when it probably is very slow.

Here's some more use-cases I had outlined in my earlier mail on this list
(2003-02-21, "Re: How to Flag a message") suggesting the very same feature:

* "Find" all messages from a certain email contact by using the "Show
only" window
* "Find" all messages received on a certain day (sort the browser by date
and look for the date; all messages from that date will be adjacent)
* "Find" all messages with the same label (e.g., "to be answered later")
by sorting after Label
* "Find" all mail you have exchanged with a specific person in
chronological order (using "Show only" + sort by date)
* "Find" all messages containing a specific term in the _subject_ only
(as opposed to anywhere in the body)

So, we're now at least two supporting that idea. :-)
