I had a strange PM experience that I will share in the hopes of saving
others the headache. For no apparent reason PowerMail (4.1.2 under OS
10.2.3) reported a corrupted database and would not open. Low level
rebuilds also failed. Fortunately I had numerous backups and pulled
those out, replacing the four PM databases with ones that worked
previously. Alas, same error reported and PM would not open. Now
(little sweat starting to form) I began the process of swapping the
databases out one at a time; this pinpointed the Address Book database as
the corrupted one. I dragged out the bad one, put in the known good one
and--same problem (now unsettling feeling beginning to spread)! To make a
45 minute process shorter, the solution was to start up PM with no
address database, let it create a blank database and then, instead of
trashing and replacing this new one, keep the new one, drag the old one
into the folder and respond OK when asked if you want to replace the item
with the same name. Why this makes a difference I have no idea, but
fortunately it worked for me.--Ira Lansing
