sounds that you are maybe rather re-directing than forwarding? anyhow, what happens is that your attachment gets sent to the archive folder and are there and available directly from your archived message but has lost the path to your incoming email. grayed out means: there was an attachment, either you moved it or trashed it or did something with the original attachments and thus path to attachment no longer available.
