It must be a bug. I have a folder containing three received messages with attachments that are still in the attachment folder. As I use the arrow keys to switch back and forth among these messages and other, attachmentless messages in the same folder, the colors of the attachment icons alternate among red, blue, green, and occasionally the original Finder color for those files. I've tried this a few dozen times, and I can't see any pattern as to when the color will change or which color will come up next.
