Hi,

since versions 5.5 of PM, I have the problem that (at least) after
replacing the PM binary with a newer version, searches are incomplete by
a great margin, meaning that only about 20% or less of the matches are found.

Re-building the search-index using Cmd-Opt-<launch environment> does fix
it, at least temporarily.

However, I feel uncomfortable for three reasons:

1. This procedure has never been necessary on application binary updates
before 5.5, even when the database had to be updated in format. Also,
that loss in searching seemed to occur also when upgrading from 5.5 beta
to 5.5 final, which I guess should not have affected the search index.

2. It's not that the full search index is missing, just a great portion.
How can I be sure that at some specific time, I actually get the full
result list for a search, and not just a certain percentage (for
whatever reason)?

3. Now that I have (again) re-built the search index, can I be
absolutely sure that new emails I receive get indexed and added to the
index properly, and that current indexed content does not get lost?

May there be other circumstances that lead to search index omnesia that
I should check in my setup?

Needless to say I am a little nervous by this observation because I had
zero problems with searching (at least none that I got aware of) with
any pre-5.5 version of PM (and the search feature is my main reason of
using it), whereas I am now at the third re-build of the search index
while using PM 5.5. I'm running on PPC, 10.4.8, no spotlight-searching for PM.

Regards, Christian.
