Thank you Christian. The evidence is a little murky. The basic email RFC 2822 recommends 78- character message lines, but does not require them. Its rationale says that clients that handle longer lines badly do not conform to the intent of the spec.
RFC 2646 Text/Plain media type is also somewhat indulgent. Your PM message header indicates this type: Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1 Because it does not specify Format=Flowed, Format=Fixed is assumed. The spec says this about Fixed: The Text/Plain media type is the lowest common denominator of Internet email, with lines of no more than 997 characters (by convention usually no more than 80), and where the CRLF sequence represents a line break. I can see the point of a simple mail format, especially for phone clients. But maybe PM should support additional formats (e.g., Content- Type: multipart/alternative; boundary=Apple-Mail-1-357683165).
