For what it is worth, I have had seven random crashes of PowerMail from 9/3 to 9/18--ie about 1/2 the rate that Bill sees.
The crashes follow no pattern--sometimes when dragging an attachment, sometimes when running an item from the script menu, sometimes when I am away from the computer.
