Palo Verde provides the following response:

1) Does your facility challenge a workers ability to hear Direct Reading
Dosimeter alarms? Yes.

2) How and when is this testing conducted? During annual WBC, while the
worker is inside the Fastscan counter the Dosimetry Tech manually activates an
electronic dosimeter alarm outside of the counter.

3) Do you challenge a workers ability to hear Direct Reading Dosimeter
alarms in a high noise background area when using an enhanced alarming
dosimeter such as a PAM 1 or PAM-TRX? No, we only ensure that the worker can
hear the PAM-1 or iPAM-TX at issue.

4) Do you test outage workers during Radiation Worker initial training? We
test the outage workers in the same manner as described in #2 during their
in-coming WBC.

5) What measures do take if a worker fails the hearing challenge test? If
the worker fails the test then his RCA access restricted in the access control
system by placing an open exception into Sentinel. Prior to RCA entry they
must check in with RP and have the exception closed to allow access, when they
log out the access exception automatically re-opens. After log-in, they report
back to RP to have their electronic dosimeter placed into the PAM.
