Steve, Dresden has a filter punch that takes samples underwater for the Trinuke filters. This seems to be the best method to obtain the sample. We obtained ours years ago from some processing company. Trinuke sells one: Filter Sampler Model FS-12 TRI NUCLEAR has developed a light weight, pneumatic, underwater filter sampler that will take a 1/2in dia punch sample of a Tri Nuclear filter cartridge. The filter cartridge media is sampled ~12in down from the top of the filter. http://www.trinuclear.com/index_files/Page4637.htm You just have to get approval to place in the pool. If this is not an option you should try to get a surrogate sample. You can get some of the sample filter media and run an amount of water into through the filter to get an appropriate sample.
