Fort Calhoun tracks & reports electronic dosimeter (DMC-2000S) to the nearest
0.1 mrem, a deliberate decision when we switched to the DMC-2000S :). The
primary driver was better alignment with our record dosimeters. We had & have
a number of workers with high numbers of entries <= 0.4 mrem that were reported
as zero with our old system. Under our previous system, the dosimeters
displayed to 0.1 mrem, but recorded to 1 mrem - a limitation of the HIS20
version we were running at the time.

One improved worker performance was eliminating the impact of workers exiting
the RCA at 0.4 mrem and getting zero recorded & trended on daily dose reports.
This lead to a false sense of dose saving and large deltas between electronic &
record dosimeters.

Subject: Powernet: Tracking electronic dosimeter dose to tenths?

San Onofre currently tracks electronic dosimeter dose to integer mrem (a
deliberate decision when we implemented the MGPI DMC-2000S dosimeters). We
understand that some plants track dose to tenths of an mrem. Reportedly, there
is an ALARA benefit for this additional precision. I have two questions:

How many plants/fleets are tracking ED dose to tenths of a mrem?

How does such precision impact ALARA performance? In other words, what worker
behaviors change when a worker sees 4.4 mrem instead of 4, or 4.7 mrem instead
of 5?

Thanks and Happy Holidays from sunny (today) California, Eric
