Grand Gulf Nuclear and the Entergy plants use these dosimeters. We GGNS, haven't looked at the fleet for this) have had breakage, but maybe 10 out of 5000 dosimeters. We have had similar discussions with Landauer, and while we remain concerned about the issue, we have had no loss of dosimeters because of it. The only one we couldn't retrieve was run over by a truck. Pretty sure that wasn't the pin failing.
Another thing we watch is cracks in the clear housing. If you push the "tack" hard enough, the clear part will crack. We have not had one come apart because of this, but we maintain a collection of spare cases and pins to address these issues when they arise. We have had questions about FME but to date they have presented no challenges to the plant. Sent: Wednesday, February 15, 2012 1:11 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Powernet: OSL dosimeters Columbia is inquiring: For plants that are using OSL dosimeters, specifically InLight Dosimeters, have you experienced a failure of the fastener (plastic thumbtack-like piece) by either breaking in two or falling out of place? We have had several occurrences of fastener breakage since we began using InLight Dosimeters in September 2011. The vendor has redesigned the fasteners and has used them with the January 2012 batch of dosimeters. However we have had four instances of fastener failure with this new batch of dosimeters. Just trying to determine if it is a continuing design flaw or an assembly problem. Your InLight insight is appreciated. Glenn W.
