In NRC Inspection Procedure IP71124.04 - Occupational Dose Assessment, Step
03.03.b.1 states to verify the licensee's sample collection procedure ensures
collection and preservation of samples in a manner such that the loss of
activity on the walls of the container is minimal...

Do your bioassay sample collection/analysis procedures address "loss of
activity on the walls of the container"?

Does anyone know the basis for this requirement? I would think any error
introduced due to "loss of activity on the walls of the container" would be
insignificant compared to errors introduced by to the gross uncertainties that
are an inherent part of the bioassay analysis process (e.g. particle sizes,
individual vs reference man retention and excretion fractions, ingestion vs
inhalation, chemical properties, the fact that 10 CFR20 ALIs/DACs are only
given to one significant figure, etc).

Any insights?

Thanks,
-Steve
