Many moons ago, I used a TEPC that could easily have been attached to a
portable instrument. So I am sure they exist.

Subject: Powernet: Neutron Detection Instruments

Does anyone have, use, know of, or can convey rumors of a portable neutron
instrument that uses a tissue equivalent proportional counter (TEPC) and is
NOT a REM500 or REM402?
