Exelon, LaSalle County Station would like to know:

If your site utilizes a mat to cover the under vessel sump area to
monitor leakage during operation.

Each outage the mat is removed (destroyed in the process) and another
mat is installed.

This activity results in ~ 1 Rem of exposure and expenses for a new mat
~ 15K.

LaSalle is requesting assistance to eliminate the mat and utilize
another mechanism to monitor leakage.

The mat is used because the equipment and floor drain sumps are located
under vessel and are covered with multiple plates that fit into place,
these plates have seams which can leak , which would affect leakage
monitoring. Please answer the questions below.

1. Do you have the same sump configuration as LaSalle - where both
sumps are located under vessel?

2. Do you use a mat under vessel for your sumps?

3. If you do use a mat, is it changed out each outage?

4. If you don't use a mat and have the same configuration as
LaSalle what mechanism do you use to monitor leakage?

Thanks

 Steve Lorenz
