1. Who (title) provides overall oversight of the control of Radioactive Sources
(day to day oversight, not the overall "responsibility", such as RPM).

There is a program manager. Our workforce split is union technicians and
program managers.

2. Who (title) performs receipt surveys.

RP Technicians

3. Who (Title) performs classification of source for Licensable Status.

Any manager should be able to follow our procedure to determine whether leak
testing is needed or if it is a licensable qty. We have a form they fill out
to answer all of the relevant questions and it also serves as a data entry form
into our dBs. Don't think licensable qty is really relevant. The NRC gave us
all authority to possess byproduct material in our operating license. Once you
possess the material, you're responsible for it regardless if the activity
meets the threshold for needing a license or not.

4. What database is used (locally grown such as "Excel or Access", or do you
use a commercial product, and yes, I'm aware of Benjy's benchmark question last
spring)

We're implementing Sentinel across our fleet. Will look at the source module
in that program in the near future, but sites currently have Access dBs or
Excel spreadsheets. I always used Access as it let met tune my dB to my
optimum business process. We've all had off-the-shelf products that could not
be configured to our processes so we stick with databases instead of going with
a product that would be a step backwards.

5. Do you have any "built in" Human Performance Tools (Self Check, Peer Check,
etc.) to your process of classifying the source and/or entry to the tracking
program.

The technical grp mgr should periodically pulse the quality of the program
since that is what they're paid to do. Our current process does not have two
sets of eyes for all data entry in the source program. We do require a second
set of eyes for the performance of source leak tests since that process is
describe in our Technical Requirements Manual which is our administrative
supplement to Tech Specs. I can't think of why it wouldn't be a good idea for
a peer chk on the initial assessment of a source and entry into the dB...

Subject: Powernet: Benchmark on Source Control Program

GREETINGS

Callaway is requesting benchmark information on your Radioactive Source Control
Program to include the following questions:

1. Who (title) provides overall oversight of the control of Radioactive Sources
(day to day oversight, not the overall "responsibility", such as RPM).

2. Who (title) performs receipt surveys.

3. Who (Title) performs classification of source for Licensable Status.

4. What database is used (locally grown such as "Excel or Access", or do you
use a commercial product, and yes, I'm aware of Benjy's benchmark question last
spring)

5. Do you have any "built in" Human Performance Tools (Self Check, Peer Check,
etc.) to your process of classifying the source and/or entry to the tracking
program.
