>From Callaway:

1) Where do your workers typically place the TLD/DLR and ED when working in PCs?
Primary Monitoring Device (PMD) - Under the PCs on a lanyard, clipped to the
clothing near the PC pocket to hold the PMD in place. Procedure requires
approximate 4" proximity. We currently use the Mirion DMC-2000 with the
Landauer OSLD.

2) If both are placed in the PC pocket, how do you keep the ED separate from
the TLD/DLR?
The PMD will be in the bag with the Secondary monitoring Device (SMD) if there
is an expectation of relocating the dosimetry pack once in the field. There
are concerns with shielding the PMD beta window with the SMD in this case, and
we brief the person.

3) If they are not both placed in the PC pocket, have you had any issues with
ED/TLD discrepancies attributed to this possible positioning difference?
We used to require the PMD and SMD to be in the PC pocket as a matter of
routine. According to the Dosimetry Program Owner, "we have never seen an
concern with a PMD/SMD mismatch that could be attributed to shielding of the
PMD by the SMD. The issue is theoretical".

This WAS the prime motivator to having the workers keep their PMD under the PC
coverall. (Personally, I'm of the opinion keeping the PMD on a lanyard under
the coverall improves the chances that the worker will actually keep the PMD on
his person while undressing and not trash it with the SMD).

Hi All,

Diablo Canyon began using TLDs supplied by a vendor on 1/1/14. The new TLD has
been integrated into the keycard lanyard. For work in CAs we have used an
ED/TLD orientation card that fit into the PC pocket. Our new TLDs do not
easily integrate into our existing cards.

1) Where do your workers typically place the TLD/DLR and ED when working in PCs?

2) If both are placed in the PC pocket, how do you keep the ED separate from
the TLD/DLR?

3) If they are not both placed in the PC pocket, have you had any issues with
ED/TLD discrepancies attributed to this possible positioning difference?

Please provide a contact for follow-up questions.

Thanks!!!

Linda
