Diablo Canyon's answers:
1) No on Fastscan. Yes on Bed Counter. Our Fastscan looks from 200 KeV up on
the standard 60 second count. We look from 50 KeV up on the special 240 second
Fastscan count. We have successfully and correctly identified Ce-144 on our
Fastscan in a 4 minute count but I think it's ability to see Am-241, at the
levels we might need to, is highly suspect although we still continue to look.
2) No on Fastscan, we stop at 88 KeV. Every other year we have Canberra send
their Livermore Phantom for the Bed Counter calibration and we do calibrate the
59 KeV line. The off year uses the more conventional mixed gamma that only
goes to 88 KeV.
3) Canberra Fastscan. We also have an odd hybrid Bed counter we call the
Helberra. It's got Canberra electronics, HPGe detector and software but still
uses the old Helgeson laydown counter housing. We have a really good 60% HPGe
detector with great FWHM values.
For whatever it's worth, we place more emphasis on looking for Am-241 in the
air sample.

Subject: Powernet: Quick Whole Body Counter Benchmark
Hello all, quick benchmark on WBC Operation and Calibration:
1. Do you include Am-241 as one of the standard nuclides in your WBC
Library?
2. Is Am-241 part of your mixed gamma calibration source (do you calibrate
the 59 keV energy line)?
3. What type of Whole Body Counter do you use (e.g. Canberra Fastscan,
Canberra Accuscan, etc)?
Thanks,
-Steve
