allowed,  For our smear counters, we reference NUREG 1576, volume 3,
18.5.6.1 Gas Proportional Counting Systems, Table 18.5, "For all detector
response checks, compare performance to control chart or tolerance limits:
±3σ or ±3%"  There are other references in this chapter for gamma spec
system QC that are similar

Duke Energy request the following information:

      1.       For alpha / beta counters used to count smears for
      contamination determination, what daily (or other frequency) quality
      control checks are used? ( i.e. Control chart with a 3 sigma limit or
      a  single count with a + 20% limit, etc.)

      2.       Do you employee different methods for counters used to
      analyze effluents or other samples not related to smear counting for
      contamination control.
