>From Callaway Our policy is changing 1-1-2015. Previously, the major groups that would respond to the Operational Support Center (Maintenance. Operations, RP, Chemistry etc.) were required to be Respiratory Protection qualified "if they could be" (These are all "pool" positions). EP had a Surveillance they did ever few months to check the status, and if any department fell below I believe 80%, EP would take action to cause the fraction to be increased.
Subsequent to 1-1-2015, the "pool" positions responding to the OSC (and their supervisors) will be required to be Respirator Qualified (Negative Pressure Filter only). If someone cannot maintain Respirator Qualified, they will have the EP qualification removed. (Although someone not qualified as an OSC responder could still be named "Essential Personnel" in an emergency). There never has been a qualification to be Respirator Qualified to respond to the TSC (Emergency Coordinator, Health Physics Coordinator, Emergency Team Coordinator, etc.). Personnel required to be SCBA qualified are Operations Fire Brigade and Radiation Protection Operations. It is unclear at this time whether the RP personnel will have their EP qualifications removed should they be disqualified Respirator or SCBA. The TSC at Catawba Nuclear Station is inside the Protected Area and also has a monitor that continuously monitors for radiological contaminants in the supporting ventilation system. Thanks in advance for your responses. Edwin (Eddie) M.
