For those plants that have been, or will be, changing from daily to week source
checks how are the following guidelines accomplished?

1) The instrument's response is characterized and documented. How did you
characterize it and what method was used to document? Since every
monitor/detector has background - did each monitor have this done?

2) How do you routinely monitor the response to background?

a. What is the frequency of that monitoring?

b. Do all techs perform that monitoring, or just select instrument techs, or
the technical specialist?

3) What value is used to compare to ambient background and what percent
change is used (sigma value or straight percent change)?

a. Does each monitor have its own value, or is there a min./max.

b. Is the algorithm in the monitors computer circuitry (i.e., Argos-5 A/B,
GEM-5) used for background change and out of service; or was something other
developed your own based on 3.a above?

A contact name and number of an individual that implemented this change would
be appreciated?

Sincerely,

Michael Kinmark
