David and Steve,

Thank you both very much for your assistance!

In regards to the MHP program, we would very much like to work towards a
partnership with the power plants in the state. I'll let Norman (our program
director) chime in here as well, but for starters, we were hoping to set up a
tour of the power plant(s) for our current students (3 total). Additionally, a
big part of our program is a practicum where students do hands-on internships,
and we would like to work towards having students be able to do some of those
hours at one of the plants.

In regards to the ACHPS, we are working to revive the chapter, and would
greatly appreciate your input on what you would like to see. Some ideas that
came out of our kickoff meeting last Friday were radiation safety refresher
courses, "open-floor" discussions on topics of interest and relevance to
members, and of course social and networking opportunities for each other and
the UAB students. The power plants are big players in heath physics in Alabama,
and we would love to make the chapter valuable for you! We are planning our
next meeting for October in Montgomery, details TBA.

Again, thank you all for your prompt responses and interest in the MHP program
and the ACHPS!

Cheers,

-Emily

Everyone

I just got this request for information from Emily Caffrey, PhD, of the
University of Alabama at Birmingham. Eric Abelquist suggested we, the PRS,
might supply her with some contact names in NPP who could assist in the UAB
Masters in HP program. Also the Alabama Chapter of the HPS would like to
attract more members.

Unfortunately, my contacts at Farley go back to 1989 and not many of those
people are still active.

BUT, our PRS section certainly has some members in her territory.

Please consider Emily’s request and see if you might help,

Best regards

See you at the Raleight HPS meeting this July !!

Hi Mr. Voss,

The AL chapter of the HPS has recently revived and the University of AL at
Birmingham has just started a Masters in HP program. We were hoping to get in
touch with the power plants in the state to see if they would be willing to get
involved in both the HP program and the chapter. Eric Abelquist suggested
contacting the power reactor section to see if you had any contacts at either
Browns Ferry or Farley.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!

Cheers,

-Emily
