At Vogtle 1&2 we are in the same situation with having the same mask with the
only difference between the two masks is the rubber or mesh 5-point head
harness. We have challenged that with MSA. We do conduct two separate fit tests
for the different harness types. What we have proposed was going to one harness
type to reduce the time spent on fit testing personnel. We were wanting tor
replace the rubber harness with the mesh speed harness. MSA recently confirmed
that OSHA has given verbal approval for mesh harnesses on the negative pressure
masks. Translation: we'll finally be able to replace all the rubber harnesses
with mesh harnesses on the respirators and go down to one full-face fit test!
MSA is waiting for the product Matrix from NIOSH. When we get that information
back from MSA, I will be happy to share that with you.

Subject: [powernet] FW: Fit Testing Question

Nuclear Industry,
At Fermi 2 we use the Standard Ultra Elite AP (negative pressure) mask as well
as the M-7 (positive pressure) mask for our SCBA's. The two style masks are
made of the same rubber material and have identical face seals. The only
difference between the two masks is the rubber or mesh 5-point head harness.
Question: Does any other plant have a similar situation with their respiratory
equipment? Do you conduct two separate fit test, because of different material
in the head harness?
Please respond on your style equipment and how you conduct your fit test.

Respectfully,

Aaron Johnson
