I’d be reluctant to put in a procedure hard limits. A guideline or documented expectation does seem prudent to ensure that someone does not do something that would result in an area posting change without some prior thought/planning.
While rare (in my experience) it does happen that particularly hot samples will have to come in to a count room for some analysis (e.g., support of a critical-path project or potential radiological event). When this sort of thing becomes necessary, it is with the full participation of RP supervision and is kept to a sort a period of time as practical. If you have portable analytical equipment, the need to do this sort of thing can just about be eliminated. We do have limits for what we allow to be run through our automated counters (e.g., Tennelec) in an effort to keep machines like this that are used for near-background measurements from becoming cross-contaminated. Contamination level that is too high (i.e., >100,000 dpm/100cm2) 2. Radiation level that is too high (i.e., >5mr/hr) Thanks, Tony Pilo Duke Energy INPO Loanee Emergency Preparedness W: 770.644.8205
