At FENOC, we take credit for our SPM-906 gamma portal monitors for internal monitoring, which negates the need to whole body count on a routine basis. New employees and visitors, etc., are required to step through a portal monitor before receiving a TLD. End of employment monitoring happens when they leave the site through the portal monitors at the exit of the protected area.
We use our Part 61 yearly analysis to evaluate that the system is capable of detecting < 0.001ALI assuming the intake occurred during the previous shift. I am aware that some nuclear power plants have suspended the requirement to have whole body counts on new staff and on personnel who end employment at your facility in favor of a portal monitor. 1. What were the factors you considered to justify this action? 1. What was the justification in the regulations and industrial standards? Respectfully, Dane A.
