Drums used for radioactive material are controlled by Health Physics at North Anna. This allows us to reuse empty drums for other purposes - radioactive waste, contaminated metals, decon use (wet vacuuming), equipment storage, etc. This provides an efficient means in reusing the contaminated drums and minimizes the introduction of new drums into the RCA. Also, yellow, metal, DOT 55-gallon drums can only be issued to Health Physics personnel - which prevents other departments from checking out a new drum and bringing it into the RCA without notifying Health Physics.
