Because the text output of texinfo was pretty useless (all pre-formatted
stuff was unformatted etc) and i could not fix it fast.
This does not mean it is impossible - i am just pretty clueless about
texinfo :-)
I really want to have a usable text-only manual (i hate those big HTML
manuals and i find info files really disgusting ;-), and lynx -dump was
the solution that looked best and was fastest to implement.

This should be answered / decided by somebody more intimate with texinfo
than me - i'm rather concentrating on the documentation contents. That's why
we formerly had just a huge bunch of READMEs - which also of course was no
really good solution ;)
