I think all new students have come, some of them start
their activities and some are still busy finding out
room rental which is suitable for them or even still
in 'reflective mood' to decide whether to stay in a
hostel or renting a room. That all trivial stuff are
for you to decide.
The important things are how you can spend your
precious time in India as beneficial as possible and
take the full advantage of it.
I think, the most important things for any indonesian
student in india are to practice english (reading,
speaking, listening).
For reading you can do it anywhere, so is listening
(as far you have TV set at your room).
But for speaking, you need a parnter or partners to
talk to. and that is obviously not indonesian. he/she
must be foreigners (indian or non-indians).
there are many ways to get foreign friends:
1. if you rent a room, ask foreign friend to stay with
you.
2. if you stay in hostel, that'll be no problem. you
can talk english everyday and everywhere. hostel is
the best choice to make you being a different person
within two years time (assuming you doing M.A.)
3. if you neither stay in hostel nor do you have a
foreigner as your room-mate, you gotta take this
choice: have a foreign boyfriend/girlfriend. :)
having romantic relationship with english speaking
date is what many people do to learn english in much
more interesting way! :)
The Dont's
----------
Dont talk or mingle with Indonesian guys too much or
everyday. You'll be just what you are now even after
you are here for several years, as it happens to many
of us.
