walaikum salaam rahmatullahi wa barakatuh dear
......thank you for your kind words...I feel that we
all find our paths in Islam, and our Destiny's are
nothing that we can change. AlHumdulilah.
I am so so grateful To Allah, that I was guided to
Islam, even before I knew Allah exisited, I look back
on my previous life, and I am so Grateful that Allah
saved me from the life I was leading.
Your right there are many great Muslimas out in the
work force today, and highly visible. I work for the
Health District where I live, and there are many
Muslims Doctors, both our Brothers and Sisters.
I just met a wonderful Sister where I live, Al
Humdulilah...as she just returend from living in Saudi
for 8 months, and will return once her school course
has finished. She is a most amazing Sister, she is a
First Nations Woman (Native American-aboriginal), she
looks like a beaudoin woman..Masha Allah...She loved
living in Saudi, and this is a woman who is also a
revert to Islam...she even wears a Burqua...and I find
her to be one of the most liberated Sisters I have
ever met...MashaAllah.. I look at her, and wonder why
anyone ever thinks we are oppressed. She is a very
strong woman, both physically and emotionally, and she
lived in a country with her Husband (who is from
Sudan), where women are suppossed to be the most
oppressed. She really laughs over that...she said, I
guess it depends on how one looks at it, either we are
oppressed or we are protected, depends on who is
looking and judging us.
I have spent many hours with this Sister since I met
her, and plan to spend many more with her, Inshallah.
She is the first Sister I have met where I live, that
is willing to teach me things..She is going to teach
more Arabic, so I can read the Quaran in the language
it is intended for us to read...Inshallah. I have
prayed for someone like her to come into my life, and
I looked up one day, and there she was. al Humdulilah.
Now only if we could educated the non beleivers, and
have them accept the fact, that they are the one's
oppressing us, not Islam. Personally I am getting
tired, of being asked in very slow English "Do you
speak English"...loool, "Do you shower with that thing
on", "Do you have hair under there"...or being yelled
at "why do you not go back to where you came from"????
One of my stranger stories is this: One day I was
walking down the street, I had on a Salwar Kameeze
that day, and of course my Hijab...and this man walked
towards me, he had the typical spiked hair of a punk
rocker, sporting both orange and green hair.. and at
least 4 nose rings, rings in his eyebrows, and both
arms had tattoos from wrists to upperarms...He looked
at me, as though I was weird, I was looking at him as
though he was weird...then I started to laugh..he said
whats so funny...I said, well I guess its all a matter
of perception, "which one of us is
weird"...looooooooool. He said, good point, and
started to laugh as well. Al Humdulilah, I dress the
way I do for the Love and Sake of Allah, and how he
dresses, I am sure is for the Shaytana.
As for Raven, I wish to also add, that no one forced
me to cover, no one forced me to revert to Islam. I
thought to myself after I reverted, "that will be the
day I cover", I thought I never would. Everyone said
to me, you will cover when the time is right for you.
I reverted Sept 3/01, and by December 2001, I was
covering...My ward robe today includes, Arabic Style
dresses, Salwar Kaamez (from Pakistan), and Modest
Western Clothes..and I can never get enough of
different Hijabs, I am always looking for more...as
where I live I can not purchase them, or any other
Islamic Clothes...I live in a very small city in
Canada...Everything I owned before, clothes wise were
given to a Shelter for ABused Women....exept those
clothes that showed too much skin, I ended up taking
those apart and making them into rags for cleaning.
Inshallah more Western Women will find the right paths
to Islam..I remember reading in the Christian bible,
where Christian women are also required to cover their
heads, but you dont see that in the Western world. I
did see that in Jordan, in the Middle East...in fact I
thought everyone was Muslim there...cause even the
Christians use the terms of Inshallah and Al
Humdulilah...I dont know why I used to think that
Christians in theMiddle East would not use those
words, but I am happy they do..
Nice to chat with everyone here, and look forward to
more discussion..
