Barangkali perlu diperhatikan bahwa Vietnam dan Kamboja begitupun Laso mengalami peperangan yang dahsyat selama puluhan tahun.
Menurut berita dikatakan bahwa bom yang dijatuhkan oleh USA di Vietnam adalah sama jumlahnya dengan jumlah bom yang dijatuhkan selama perang dunia kedua. Akibat peperangan sebahagian tanah pertanian di Vietnam belum bisa dipakai karena masih berkontaminasi "agent orange". Sekali pun demikian agaknya pertumbuhan ekonomi di Vietnam berjalan dengan pesat.
