Keadaan Singapura lain lagi. Ketika dia diusili mendapat apartemen murah berkat jabatannya, dia bayar penuh bukan harga promosi. Jangankan mencuri uang, kader yang membuang sampah dari mobilnya, langsung out. Ini bukan cerita karangan. Salam, RM -------------------------------------- STI Dec 10, 2004 Singapore's politicians among most honest: Poll Parties in India, Latin America and Indonesia seen as most corrupt PARIS - POLITICAL parties in Latin America, India, Indonesia and some eastern European states are the most corrupt, according to a poll which also showed Singapore to be among countries having the most honest parties. In half the 64 countries surveyed, 'political parties were rated by the general public as the institution most affected by corruption', the report said. According to the Gallup International survey, Ecuador rates worst in its population's eyes for political corruption, followed closely by Argentina, Brazil, Peru and India. Others with low grades included Bolivia, Costa Rica, Mexico, Indonesia, Ukraine and Uruguay. Transparency International, a Berlin-based non-governmental organisation, released its 2004 Global Corruption Barometer in Paris to coincide with the United Nations International Anti-Corruption Day. 'As TI's world barometer shows, corruption remains a scourge in many places, and many countries and sectors of economic and social life suffer its negative consequences,' Mr Daniel Lebegue, head of Transparency International France, told reporters. The countries considered to have the most honest parties in terms of corruption were Singapore, the Netherlands and Albania. Among the areas surveyed were perceptions of petty and grand corruption. In the Asia-Pacific region, two-thirds of those surveyed in India and the Philippines judged petty corruption to be a very big problem, while in Singapore, 43 per cent of respondents indicated it was not a problem at all. Grand corruption was also a considerable concern in India, but not in Hong Kong and Singapore. Many western Europeans rated petty corruption as but a minor problem, if at all. It was not viewed as a serious problem by Americans or Canadians, too. Mr Lebegue urged governments to ratify a UN Convention Against Corruption that would make it easier to return assets stolen by politicians and speed up the extradition of corrupt leaders who have fled. The survey asked more than 50,000 respondents how they rated various public institutions for graft. Political parties came out worst in most of the countries, followed by the police, customs officers and national parliaments. Policemen were considered especially corrupt in several African countries such as Cameroon, Ghana, Kenya and Nigeria, as well as in Malaysia, Pakistan, the Philippines, Russia, South Africa and Ukraine. -- AGENCE FRANCE-PRESSE ------------------------ Yahoo!
