Salam, RM -------------------------------------------- Bangalore to be e-governed from April Tuesday, December 21, 2004 BANGALORE: Come April 2005 and this IT capital of India will have a 24/7 online portal through which its six million residents can access two dozen government-to citizen (G2C) services. Mumbai-based CMS Computers Ltd and Hyderabad-based Ram Informatics Ltd have bagged the Bangalore One (B1) e-governance project, a Rs.100 million ($2.3 million) initiative of the Karnataka government. It will function on Microsoft's .NET platform. "The e-governance services will commence operations from 15 dedicated centres across Bangalore under phase one. By next year-end, another 35 centres will be opened in and around the city to cover a majority of the population in the second phase," Karnataka e-governance secretary Rajeev Chawla told reporters here Monday. The consortium bagged the project through a nationwide open tender floated by the government. The vendors (CMS-led consortium) will operate the system, provide staff to man the counters and set up a data centre for hosting the B1 applications.
