Indonesia ashamed of being classified as one of the most corrupt nations: Susilo JAKARTA (Antara): President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said on Friday that the Indonesian people were ashamed to see their nation classified as one the most corrupt in the world. "Our heart struggles against it .... we don't want our nation to be labeled like that," Susilo said at the commemoration of the 97th anniversary of National Awakening Day. Susilo urged the people to back up his efforts currently being carried out to intensively fight against rampant corruption practices. "If we were able to get rid of (corruption), we would be able to save state money for the sake of improving the welfare of the people," he said. As long as Indonesia was still powerless, poor and backward, it would be continuously humiliated by other nations, he said. Lingering poverty would prevent the Indonesian people from asserting their sovereignty and strength as a nation, he added. Corruption constitutes the most complicated problems the current government is facing as it occurs at nearly all levels of government institutions.
