DH: Ada buku tulisan David Hazard berjudul "Blood Brothers" mengenai romo Elias
ini. Beliau adalah romo dari gereja Katholik Orthodox (bukan Katholik Roma),
sebuah gereja Katholik dari kelompok gereja Armenia. Mereka menjadi Kristen
sudah sejak zaman Yesus, yang juga menggunakan bahasa Aram, bahasa yang dipakai
Yesus.
"Elias Chacour became a priest in the Melkite Catholic Church, which dates back
to the Byzantine period and Constantine. Father Chacour is a man of faith, of
the Christian faith. He is also a Palestinian.
Beliau ini dilahirkan didesa Biram, di Galilea hulu, yang kemudian menjadi
bagian dari Israel. Beliau adalah Palestinian. Jadi, kalau kita mengira semua
orang Palestina adalah Islam, adalah keliru ( It is often assumed that all
Palestinians are Arabs and are Muslims. However, this is a very incorrect
assumption. There are actually between twelve and fourteen million Arab
Christians in the world, and many of them live in Palestine, and are thus often
called Palestinians").
Mengenai tragedi kelompoknya, beliau katakan dengan penuh kepahitan:
""II was born a baby in the image and likeness of God, not more, and not less
either."
According to Chacour, this is something that unites all of humanity under God.
"Jews are also born babies in the image and likeness of God. It is good for
them to have a homeland and freedom of expression, but not if that means
someone else is to be homeless and not have freedom of expression.
" We are all human children of God, and we all make mistakes. However, we are
also called by God to live together in peace and share all that God has given
us...."
Mereka adalah orang Kristen (kelompok Katholik), yang juga digilas oleh
buldozer Israel, dan tak boleh lagi kembali ke desa mereka.
Kisah yang tragis.
