Pemahaman agama yang salah berpotensi untuk menciptakan kekerasan. Agama memang tidak mengajarkan kekerasan. Tapi sulit sekali untuk tidak menuding agama sebagai salah satu penyebab begitu banyak persoalan di dunia ini. Agama begitu mudah untuk salah ditafsirkan sehingga mudah juga untuk melegalisasi tindakan apapun atas nama agama. Seandainya orang-orang lebih mementingkan nilai-nilai kemanusiaan yang universal daripada sibuk menjadi "pembela" agamanya dengan menciptakan kekerasan baru.
