Per request of Dr. Arif Tafsir (Exegesis) of Surah Ar-Rahman [55:19- 24] have been provided. The worth of question does indeed indicate the worth of the questioner. We thought that these verses would be easy and yet consulting the records we discovered the opening of a new door into the secrets of Qur'an, perhaps long unnoticed by many. Also the terminologies of the ancient books required a tour de force of research into other obscure books! You may read the words of luminaries such as: Ibn Abbas, Baqli Shirazi, Ibn Arabi, Tabari, Qushairi, Al Alusi, Abu Hamed Ghazali, Jurjani, `Amuli. As we read in Baqli that given the spiritual elevation of a reader the meanings of the verses would be manifested differently in his/her heart. This is key to understanding Qur'an: different readers based upon their spiritual elevation may be cognizant of different knowledge(s) and meanings. Moreover as indicated by Al Alusi the two seas may refer to Imam Ali and Fatima, the Pearl and Coral the Hassan and Hussein, Hadith derived from Ibn Abbas! Again this indicates serious loss of knowledge and we hope that Allah brings us back what has been lost. Regardless of the interpretations of the Sunnis and Shiites, the Sufis do hold this interpretation as a valid one; indeed this signals an important non-sectarian passageway for understanding Qur'an.
