Nazarbayev proposes creation of new Eurasian economic union ** ST. PETERSBURG. June 10 (Interfax) -*Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev has proposed creation of a Eurasian Bankers Club in Astana, saying that the customs union between Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan could serve as the basis for a new Eurasian economic union. "Prerequisites exist for the future transition to a more developed stage of integration of the common economic space. The customs union of the three nations could serve as a nucleus for formation of a Eurasian Economic Union - a global organization, built on new principles of trust and mutual cooperation," Nazarbayev said at the International Economic Forum in St. Petersburg on Sunday. Large banks, investment funds and development institutes could be involved in the practical formation of the Eurasian Economic Union, he said. "To lure these financial forces, we propose opening a Eurasian regional center, a Eurasian Bankers Club," he said. mg jh [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
