*Iran, Spain to expand cooperation on energy sector*

Iran-Spain-Energy

Iranian and Spanish legislators explored ways to expand cooperation on
different energy sectors including oil, gas and renewable energies.

A visiting delegation of Iranian Majlis' energy commission held talks with
the head of Industry and Energy Commission of Spain's congress.

The two sides expressed readiness for expansion of parliamentarian
cooperation and exchange of parliamentarian delegations in presence of
Iran's Ambassador to Madrid Davoud Salehi.

The Spanish MP pointed to the special status of Iran in the Middle East,
saying that Iran is an important and influential country in the region and
plays a key role in supplying global energy needs.

The members of Iranian parliament's energy commission are on a one-week tour
to visit Spanish energy facilities.

MP Hossein Afarideh told IRNA that although the US imposes sanctions on Iran
over its peaceful nuclear program, Spanish companies were ready to cooperate
with Iran in the fields of civilian nuclear program and energy generation
within the framework of the
International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) regulations.

He noted that the cooperation will be in the fields of technical supports
and training manpower to be employed in peaceful nuclear program.

Nuclear power plants account for supply of 20 percent of Spain's electricity
needs, and the country has experience and abilities in this respect.
