The ambassador of the Netherlands to Iran adnik van Vollenhoven Tuesday expressed hope that favorable conditions would be provided for his country to invest in Iran's oil and gas sector. Speaking in a meeting with chairman of Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Mines, Mohammad Nahavandian, the ambassador referred to the open economy and vulnerability of his country and said: "There are big companies in Holland with modern technology engaged in oil and gas sector. Iran too is an energy rich country and we are eager to cooperate with Tehran in energy projects." Referring to Iran's investment in infrastructural fields over the past two decades, Nahavandian said involvement of the private sector in economic activities will open the way for economic progress. "Under such conditions, development of economic relations will be to the benefit of both sides," he told the ambassador. He also reiterated that economic sanction against Iran would be ineffective and called for negotiations as the best solution to overcome differences. He said Iran owned 17 percent of world's gas reserves and 11 percent of its oil reserves. "Therefore, Iran plays a significant role in creating a balance in the global energy market and it is in the interest of both Iran and Europe not to maintain their economic relations."
