Japan,China ministers agree on economic cooperation Ministers from Japan and China have agreed to jointly tackle issues ranging from global warming to counterfeit products, during high-level economic talks in Beijing.
The meeting held in the Chinese capital on Saturday, brought together 6 cabinet ministers from Japan and 8 from China. Japan's Foreign Minister Masahiko Koumura, Finance Minister Fukushiro Nukaga and China's Vice Premier Zeng Peiyan were among the attendants. Through the 4-hour talks, the ministers agreed to cooperate on 4 areas, including climate change and protection of intellectual property rights. Japan agreed to provide fuel-efficient technology to China to help curb greenhouse gas emissions. On the financial front, the 2 sides agreed to closely share information to prevent a possible hard landing of China's booming economy from hurting both countries. The ministers also agreed to jointly crack down on Chinese-made counterfeit and pirated goods through training of inspectors who identify fake products.
