*More effort needed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions*

TOKYO, Dec. 21 KYODO

The Japanese government called Friday for more effort to reduce the
country's greenhouse gas emissions to achieve its obligation under the 1997
Kyoto Protocol to slash emissions by 6 percent on average between 2008 and
2012 from the 1990 level.

At the day's joint session, the advisory bodies to the economy, trade and
industry minister and the environment minister endorsed a draft report to
review the action plan to cut gas emissions.
