The pictures, which have only recently come to light, were commissioned by the Nazis to help with plans to reconstruct cities after the war. Pictures of Dresden show the spectacular baroque Church of Our Lady before it was destroyed by controversial allied fire bombing, which killed up to 40,000 people. The church was recently reconstructed as a symbol of reconciliation between former warring enemies. Other photos capture Stuttgart and its Flemish late gothic town hall, before most of the city's cultural gems were destroyed in fires following bombing raids.
